Whether structured as pure volunteer, paid-on-call, combination, or full-time career departments, agencies across the state are actively recruiting motivated individuals ready to answer the call. After all, a majority of the firefighters in the state of Wisconsin participate after their normal working hours. Contrary to common misconceptions, no previous firefighting experience is required to join. Most Wisconsin departments provide all necessary training, safety equipment, and onboarding support to help new members succeed.   What It Takes to Join To apply, candidates must meet basic, common-sense requirements: Be an adult (typically 18 years or older) Hold a valid driver’s license Pass a criminal background check Possess the physical capability to perform essential job duties Before applying, chiefs recommend candidates ensure their driver's license is in good standing, confirm their background check eligibility, and have an honest conversation at home regarding the time commitment. Overview of Town Heated Facility Project Proposal

Primary Justification:

Improved storage, equipment protection, and faster emergency and public works response.

Key Points

  • There is a storage space shortage for both the Town road department and Fire
  • Existing heated and unheated storage buildings are at or near
  • Some equipment is currently stored in unheated space, which is not ideal for emergency response equipment, batteries, boats, trailers, pumps, and winter road equipment.
  • A new heated storage building would improve emergency response readiness and operational efficiency for both departments.

Proposed Building

  • Approximately 60′ x 60′ heated storage
  • Located north of the current
  • Wood-frame construction with concrete floor, steel siding and roof, insulation, electricity, and basic
  • No windows, running water, offices, or interior

Funding Concept

  • Initial site work and concrete could begin fall 2026 using Fire Department CD
  • Building construction would continue in 2027 using remaining Fire Department funds and Town
  • About $103,000 from the Fire Department fund is expected to be
  • Additional funding could come from Town funds, fundraising efforts, grants, business donations, and citizen contributions.
  • To be completely transparent, there is a possibility that taxes may need to be levied, but that would involve another special elector meeting to obtain approval.

Public Vote

  • A township needs elector approval to build a new building because Wisconsin Statute 10 reserves direct budgetary and property powers for resident voters at a special town meeting, rather than granting total executive control to the elected town board.
  • Elector approval grants the town board the legal authority to move forward with a project (through board approval at a future meeting).
  • The Board is asking electors to authorize up to $350,000 for the project (estimates indicate less).
